She’s at work on a book of essays. Her writing has been awarded full fellowships or bursaries from the Fulbright Program (USA), the Vermont Studio Center (USA), Granta (UK), and Sterling College (USA).
She is the first and former Digital Communications Manager of the Asian American Writers’ Workshop, a literary nonprofit in NYC. She joined them as an editor of The Margins, the literary magazine of the Workshop, where she curated “Monsoon Notebook” and produced hundreds of stories, promoting writing from the Asian diaspora. Before that, she had a career in books in NYC and London.
She writes a column for The Korea Times, South Korea’s longest-running English-language daily. You can find her essays on books and foods in The Guardian, The Nation, The White Review, Modern Farmer, and The Infatuation, among many others. She also works with clients such as Talent Taiwan and The New Yorker’s Branded Content Studio.
Born and raised in New York, Esther is a traveler and heirloom bean enthusiast. She regularly volunteered with New York City’s Girls Write Now, the very mentorship scheme that nurtured her teenage ambitions, and she likes cycling through her city and spending time with friends and family. She lives in Taiwan with her longtime partner and the rare gecko. 🦎
